Celebrating Halloween in Cozumel
Do you want to enjoy a unique, never-like-before Halloween in Mexico? If yes, Cozumel is your next best destination. Locally known as Dia de Las Brujas, Halloween is extremely famous and important in the island. It is celebrated on the 31st of October and is filled with many scintillating traditions. You will be astounded to note that Halloween in Cozumel has been celebrated for more than four long decades. Indeed, it is one of the island’s most awaited festivals of all time. Unsurprisingly, the feast is loved by little ones and teenagers. It is a special time for Mexican games like trick-or-treat and Queremos chantings.
The Amazing Days
In Cozumel, you will come across the Americanized version of Halloween too. This version of the festival became famous in recent times. Since, Halloween is a very important occasion in the country, people celebrate it with lots of enthusiasm and love. There are several versions of Halloween in Cozumel. As you move across Mexico, you will see several different types of celebrations. With this being said, here are few things to do in Cozumel during the Halloween season.
The traditional efforts
First of all, traditional Mexican families begin by cleaning and decorating the graves of their dear ones. They use picks, hoes and shovels to clear weeds and grass from the graves. Moving on, the graves are beautifully decorated using flowers and pine needles. Next, families set up altars for their dear ones at home. These alters are decorated wonderfully with candies, bread, flowers and fruits. Some tend to keep alcohol near the altars too! Note that this is in preparation for the Mexican Holiday, “Day of the Dead”. Day of the Dead is Nov 2nd and is confused all too often with a Mexican Version of Halloween and a piece of advice is don’t get the two confused or compare them in front of the Locals as they are proud of their cultural traditions. So remember Day of the Dead is NOT the Mexican Version of Halloween!
Halloween on a Cruise to Cozumel
Those who want lively Cozumel family activities during Halloween opt for cruises! For example, the carnival sailing to Cozumel from New Orleans will revitalize new life through your Halloween experience. It is a guest ship decorated with pumpkins, nurtured with Halloween movies and great dance parties. Adults are allowed to enjoy their much loved witches beverages! On the other hand, kids are delighted with especially themed activities. Generally, the cruise arrives at Cozumel on the Day of the Dead! Another interesting cruise that visits Cozumel during Halloween would be the “Celebrity Cruises” from Central America. As suggested by its name, the cruise is loaded with live DJs and costume parties.
