that was founded in 1972. Since its inception, FCCA has found a sturdy place in Cozumel News. It is a non-profit organization which focuses on ports, cruises, tourism development, security and many other tourism related issues. By default, FCCA strives hard to maintain a steady relationship between public sectors and private bilateral relationships. It understands the need for upright operating practices in the cruise industry. Conversely, FCCA toils with representatives from the government, private sector and ports. They intend to maximize cruise & crew line spending and the count of cruise passengers. Almost all tour operators in Cozumel depend on the initiatives made by FCCA.

Micky Arison (Chairman of FCCA and Carnival Corporation) believes that Cozumel, Mexico is the right spot for FCCA events. In terms of tourism and water sports, the island has shown drastic performance. It has contributed extensively to cruise tourism and ocean development. This is why FCCA considers Cozumel as a hub for most of its trade shows and conferences.

The Rise in Numbers

When it comes to FCCA in Cozumel, the real numbers speak of several facts. According to tour operators in Cozumel, the destination experienced an increase of 21% of passengers after the 2007 FCCA conference. Consequently, the island witnesses an increase of 10%! On the other hand, per-person expenditure increased by 17% between 2007 and 2008. These are tacky numbers that have contributed extensively to the island’s economy.

Cozumel Time Change – Cozumel News

Get Ready for a Big Cozumel Time Change

Cozumel is now in its own little time zone along with the state of Quintana Roo and will now be on Eastern Standard Time!  That’s right, after years of debate a number of Hoteliers from Cozumel, Cancun and other popular tourist destinations in the Riviera Maya as well as local Government Officials finally won the vote in the Legislature to change the time for State of Quintana Roo to match Eastern Standard Time.

They have been pushing for this for years now and want this to take place so that Tourists in the area have more daylight and time to do tours and enjoy the local beaches and resorts.  Obviously it will be good for business as well as it will allow for more light for more activities.  It will take a little getting used to for Tourists as well as for locals but here it is everybody get ready for change.

A word of advice is for cruiser´s who seemingly will be the most affected by the new time in Cozumel as Ships sailing out of Florida will be the same time as local cruiseship at sunsettime so a little less confusion for them.  Despite this it doesn’t mean it will be less confusing for all Cozumel Cruiser’s as those arriving on cruises that sail out of Houston, Galveston and New Orleans which are on Central Time will now be an hour behind Cozumel time instead of being on the same schedule which is something that will definitely take some time to get accustomed.

Now to help avoid some additional confusion which has definitely been happening as it is evident on the Cozumel travel boards and forums this is not a Daylight Savings Time change.  This is a permanent change and so Cozumel in April will change their clocks ahead and additional hour so this summer will definitely be a lot brighter in Cozumel from now on.

That is the basic rundown about the new changes coming this weekend and Discover Mexico is very glad to provide you with great Cozumel Travel Tips and Cozumel News so that you can get the most out of your Cozumel Vacation.  If you are looking for great things to do in Cozumel or need a little help just comment on the post below or contact us at Discover Mexico Cozumel.
